Lopburi Province Announces the 38th King Narai the Great Reign Festival 2026 Under the Theme “Lavo Identity: Honoring King Narai the Great and Her Majesty the Queen Mother of All Thais,” Inviting Visitors to Dress in Traditional Thai Attire and Explore the Historic Palace for 10 Days and 10 Nights from February 13–22, 2026
On January 29, 2026, at King Narai’s Palace, Mueang Lopburi District, Lopburi Province, Mr.Wiraphong Rhitrot, Governor of Lopburi, together with relevant agencies, jointly held a press conference to announce the organization of the 38th King Narai the Great Reign Festival 2026. The atmosphere of the press conference was lively, with participants dressed in traditional Thai period costumes, showcasing the beautiful and distinctive identity of Lopburi Province.
This year’s festival is organized under the theme “Lavo Identity: Honoring King Narai the Great and Her Majesty the Queen Mother of All Thais,” which carries two key significances. First, it pays tribute to King Narai the Great, the Ayutthaya monarch who laid the foundations and brought prosperity to Lavo City—present-day Lopburi Province. Second, it commemorates the gracious benevolence of Queen Sirikit, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, toward the people of Lopburi Province and the Thai nation. In addition, the festival serves to preserve and pass on the local cultural heritage, promote historical learning, and enhance tourism in Lopburi Province. In 2026, the event is scheduled to take place from February 13–22, 2026, at King Narai’s Palace and nearby historical sites.
The key highlights of activities within the festival include a grand and spectacular historical procession; historical theatrical performances with newly reimagined scripts that add greater mystique; Thai traditional village activities and demonstrations of Thai ways of life recreating daily life during the Ayutthaya period; the only human chess performance in the world; wearing traditional Thai attire to pay respects and seek blessings for spiritual devotees; King Narai’s herbal medicine formulas, regarded as original remedies from the Ayutthaya era; and, most notably, the “Light and Sound: Phra Prang Sam Yot Niramit, Si Lavo” show, which will captivate visitors and deepen their fascination with Lopburi Province. Additional highlights include fashion shows of the eight royal-recommended Thai costume styles, the Lavo Lady contest featuring contestants dressed in royal-recommended Thai attire, traditional folk theatre (Lakhon Nok), cultural zones, retro-style markets, OTOP products, and many other activities. The festival also features magnificent illumination of historical sites within King Narai’s Palace and nearby monuments, creating a grand and stunning atmosphere throughout the area.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. onward, at the central stage of King Narai’s Palace. The ceremony will feature a grand historical procession depicting court traditions during the reign of King Narai the Great, with more than 1,000 participants taking part. Throughout the festival period, decorative lighting and floral landscaping will adorn various historical sites in a magnificent display, including Sutthasawan Throne Hall, Narai Niramit Garden, the Inner Royal Compound of King Narai’s Palace, Ratchanusorn Park, Prang Khaek Shrine, and the Monument of King Narai the Great (Thepsatri Roundabout). In addition, on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., a worship ceremony honoring King Narai the Great will be held on the occasion of His Majesty’s birth anniversary, accompanied by a sacred dance offering performed by more than 5,000 dancers.
Lopburi Province therefore invites the public and tourists, both Thai and international, to “dress in traditional Thai attire and visit the palace” to experience cultural pride and join in paying tribute to the monarchy and the Royal Family at King Narai’s Palace and nearby historical sites throughout the 10 days and 10 nights of the festival.
